Shakuntala Jagannath Shetty Auditorium , Pune

Event Description

On November 1, 2025, an initiative by Mr Ramprasad Akkisetti, Managing Director, CCBA Designs and Art Curator. India House Art Gallery, Pune, came to light, hosting an Odissi dance in memory of the late renowned architect, Professor Christopher Benninger. The event took place at the Shakuntala Jagannath Shetty Auditorium in Pune, featuring a 16-member group of young dancers from the Odisha-based Rudrakshya Foundation.

Started by Guru Bichitrananda Swain in 2000, the foundation brought ancient mythological episodes to life. The performance showcased the traditional classical form of Odissi dance, utilising intricate body movements, expressive abhinaya (facial expressions), and fundamental symmetric body stances known as bhangas.

The curated evening featured five mesmerising compositions. The concert included Keki Kantha Neelam (choreographed by Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra) and the pure dance sequence Chandrika Kamodi. The ensemble also performed Ardhanariswar, recognised as an early Indian reference to gender equality, before transitioning into Yaha Krishna Saha Kali. The artistic showcase culminated in a powerful finale called Samudra Manthan, an epic story depicting the cosmic churning of the ocean.

The spectacular event was further graced by the presence of actor Naved Aslam, who addressed the audience with a short, inspiring speech to over 300 guests. To conclude the evening, Mr Ramprasad Akkisetti delivered a heartfelt facilitation speech. He also honoured all the performing artists with a souvenir and donated INR 100,000, expressing deep gratitude for their mesmerising tribute to Prof. Benninger’s legacy.
