Dr Sunil Kothari is an internationally known Dance Historian, author and dance critic. He has to his credit 20 definitive books on dance including on Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi,Kuchipudi, New Directions in India Dance, Sattriya Dances of Assam, Photo biographies of Uday Shankar and Rukmini Devi, Dance inretrospect( two volumes) and others. Majority of his books are published by Marg Publishers. Dr Kothari was a Professor and Chair, Dance Department, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata and School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU, New Delhi. He was dance critic of the Times of India group of publications for more than 40 years. For his contribution to dance he was honoured by the President of India with civil honour of Padma shri, Sangeet Natak Akademi award and is fellow of sangeet natak akademi. He is based in New Delhi and writes for The Hindu, dance journals nartanam quarterly and sruti monthly.
