Introduction

Rajesh Sagara studied painting from Sheth C N College of Fine Arts, Ahmedabad and sculpture from the faculty of Fine Arts, M S University, Vadodara in 1986 and 1989 respectively. He was a fellow at the Kanoria Centre for Arts in 1986. Rajesh has received a National award for Sculpture and was selected to present his work in the 11th Triennale exhibition, New Delhi. He has been awarded the Gujarat Lalit kala Academy award several times and has been a recipient of the Navdeep Prathishtha Puraskar. Moreover, he is a recipient of the Junior Fellowship awarded by the Ministry of Human resources, New Delhi. Rajesh has held solo shows in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Aglet city, South of France and has been invited to show his works in several group shows held at Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Vadodara etc.  He has also participated in several national and international Sculpture camps in cities such as Bhopal, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Vadodara. His murals on the life of Gandhi at Shahibag underpass and on the life of Sardar Patel at Usmanpura underpass in Ahmedabad are major works of art in public places. Besides sculptures and paintings, Rajesh has also created a film ‘Miradatar’. He was invited to present talks at the University of Connecticut, University of Loyola and Marymount, LA and recently was a resident artist at Erich Hauser studio, Rottweil, Germany.
